Monday, Martin took a major step toward the summit when his Martin Stables South sold a strapping son of Spanish Steps out of the Ogygian mare Poqito Polly for $200,000 during the select session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co.'s August yearling auction. FAQ : Why Didn't Spanish Steps race?
Answer: Spanish Steps was purchased by Demi OByrne
for Michael Tabor as a Ridgeling (one decended testicle)
At Keeneland September. Spanish Steps suffered a torn
rear susupensory ligament while training with Todd
Pletcher at Gulfstream Park his 3yo year where he was
showing serious talent. It is believed the undecended test-
icle caused him track wide in the rear placing too much
stress on his ligaments which ultimately tore. After his first
year at stud in 2005, the testicle decended which is not a
common occurance. Stallion prospects that have only one
decended testicle are not eligible for stallion fertility
insurance which negatively affected his sales price as a
yearling. Spanish Steps has phenominal fertility by settling
93% of his mare his first year at stud.
